ASN Inducts 186 New Members

Loyola chapter of Alpha Sigma Nu inducts 186 new members, welcomes 4 honorary members

The Loyola University Chicago chapter of Alpha Sigma Nu, the international honor society of Jesuit colleges and universities, inducted 186 new members on September 27, including 62 juniors, 70 seniors, and 54 graduate and professional students from the 12 schools and the Institute of Pastoral Studies. Alpha Sigma Nu recognizes students who distinguish themselves in scholarship, loyalty, and service, and selection is one of the highest honors a student can receive at a Jesuit university.

In order to receive an invitation to Alpha Sigma Nu, students must be juniors or seniors, or have completed half of their graduate/professional degree requirements, and be in the top 15% of their class. Only 5% of each class may be inducted each year. The three tenets of Alpha Sigma Nu are Scholarship, Loyalty, and Service. Candidates are nominated and recommended by their respective college, school, or institute, and recommendations are not only based on students' academic achievements, but also on their loyalty to the ideals of Jesuit education and their engagement in service. Membership in Alpha Sigma Nu is one of the highest recognitions bestowed by Loyola.

This year, the Loyola chapter also recognized four individuals with honorary membership: Michèle Alexandre, JD, Dean and Professor, School of Law, Loyola University Chicago; William Rodríguez, PhD ’16, Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students, Loyola University Chicago; Rev. Michael Rossmann, S.J., PhD (MA ’11), University Chaplain, Superior of the Jesuit Community at Loyola Chicago, and Adjunct Professor in Theology, Loyola University Chicago; and Matthew Lynch, MBA, President of the Chicago Jesuit Academy. Lynch delivered the ceremony's keynote address as the Induction Ceremony Speaker, welcoming new members to the society.

In addition to welcoming its new members, the Loyola chapter awarded the annual Alpha Sigma Nu Scholarship to Thienna Nguyen of the College of Arts and Sciences, and the award was presented by Clara Dwyer, Executive Director of Alpha Sigma Nu. Dwyer also presented Loyola with the 2025-2026 Chapter of the Year award during the ceremony. Finally, the Rev. Ronald J. Ferguson, S.J. Award for Most Outstanding New Inductee, sponsored by Loyola's Jesuit Community, was awarded to Cameron Shuck of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies and School of Law.
